English Quiz for IBPS Clerk & RBI Assistant Prelims 2017 - 3

$
0
0

Hello and welcome to exampundit. Here is a set of English Quiz for IBPS Clerk & RBI Assistant Prelims 2017.

A recent report in News Week says that in American colleges, students of Asian origin outperform not only the minority group students but the majority whites as well. Many of these students must be of Indian origin, and their achievement is something we can be proud of. It is unlikely that these talented youngsters will come back to India and that is the familiar brain drain problem. However recent statements by the nation’s policy-makers indicate that the perception of this issue is changing. ‘Brain bank’ and not ‘brain drain’ is the more appropriate idea, they suggest since the expertise of indians abroad is only deposited in other places and not lost. This may be so, but this brain bank, like most other banks, is one that primarily serves customers in its neighborhood. The skills of the Asians now excelling in America’s colleges will mainly help the U.S.A.. No matter how significant, what nonresident Indians do for India and what their counterparts do for other Asian lands is only a by-product. But it is also necessary to ask, or be remained, why Indians study fruitfully when abroad. The Asians whose accomplishments News Week records would have probably has a very different tale if they had studied in India. In America they found elbow room, books and facilities not available and not likely to be available here. The need to prove themselves in their new country and the competition of an international standard they faced there must have cured mental and physical laziness. But other things helping them in America can be obtained here if we achieve a change is social attitudes, specially towards youth. We need to learn to value individuals and their unique qualities more than conformity and respectability. We need to learn the language of encouragement to add to our skill in flattery.

1. Among the many groups of students in American colleges, Asian students.
(a) are often written about in magazines like News Week.
(b) are most successful academically
(c) have proved that they are as good as the whites.
(d) have only a minority status like the blacks.
(e) None of these

2. The student of Asian origin in America include :
(a) a fair number from India.
(b) a small group from India.
(c) persons from India who are very proud.
(d) Indians who are the most hard working of all.
(e) None of these

3. In general, the talented young Indians studying in America:
(a) have a reputation for being hard working
(b) have the opportunity to contribute to India’s development.
(c) can solve the brain drain problem because of recent changes in policy.
(d) will not return to pursue their careers in India.
(e) None of these

4. There is talk now of the ‘brain bank’ This idea :
(a) is a solution to the brain drain problem
(b) is a new problem caused partly by the brain drain
(c) is a new way of looking at the role of qualified Indians living abroad.
(d) is based on a plan to utilize foreign exchange remittances to stimulate research and development.
(e) None of these

5. The brain bank has limitations like all banks in the sense that:
(a) a bank’s services go mainly to those near it.
(b) small neighborhoods banks are not visible in this age of multinationals.
(c) only what is deposited can be withdrawn and utilized.
(d) no one can be forced to put his assets in a bank.
(e) None of these

6. The author feels that what non-resident Indians do for India:
(a) will have many useful side effects.
(b) will not be their main interest and concern.
(c) can benefit other Asian countries as a by-product.
(d) can American colleges be of service to the world community.
(e) None of these

7. The performance of Indians when they go to study in the West :
(a) shows the fruits of hardwork done by school teachers in India.
(b) should remind us that knowledge and wisdom are not limited by the boundaries of race and nation.
(c) is better than people in the West expect of non-whites.
(d) is better than what it would have been if they had studied in India.
(e) None of these

8. The high level of competition faced by Asian students in America.
(a) helps them overcome their lazy habits.
(b) makes them lazy since the facilities there are good.
(c) makes them worried about failing.
(d) helps them prove that they are as good as whites.
(e) None of these

9. The author feels that some of the conditions other than the level of facilities that make the West attractive.
(a) are available in India but young people do not appreciate them.
(b) can never be found here because we believe in conformity.
(c) can be created if our attitudes and values change.
(d) can also give respectability to our traditions and customs.
(e) None of these

10. One of the ways of making the situation in India better would be
(a) to eliminate flattery from public life.
(b) to distinguish between conformity and respectability.
(c) to give appreciation and not be tightfisted.
(d) to encourage people and no merely flatter them.

(e) None of these

Did SBI Previously Announce There May Be No Sectional Cut-off?

$

0

Hello and welcome to exampundit. A buzz going around about the Sectional Cut-off in SBI PO Mains 2017. After the result was declared, it was noticed by all the aspirants that SBI did not have any sectional cut-off.

However, the reason of the debate was that SBI did not mention that there will be no sectional cut-off. It is a fact that Banks/Exam Conducting Authorities should mention clearly what are the odds that is why the outrage is justified.

In the recent week, some of our aspirants pointed out that RRB's sectional cut-off text is different than the SBI.

We looked up and found it true.

SBI never assured that SECTIONAL CUT-OFF is Mandatory or Compulsory.

If you read their text, it is written(_handout link_)

Objective Test : The Objective Test of 3 hours duration consists of 4 Sections for total 200 marks. The Objective Test will have separate timing for every section. The candidates are required to qualify in each of the tests by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.

Which means, SBI has the right to keep a passing mark for any of test as per the performance. So if most of the aspirants did not perform overall good or there was low marks in particular section(s), SBI can easily remove the sectional cut-off.

However, if you read IBPS RRB's handout, it is written: (_handout link_)

Each candidate will be required to obtain a minimum score in each test of Online Main examination to be considered to be shortlisted for interview. Depending on the number of vacancies available, adequate number of candidates in each category not exceeding three times of the declared vacancies in each state shall be called for interview, subject to availability.

Which is a clear instruction that there will be sectional cut-off.

The only thing we can suggest our aspirants is that Always Read The Information Handouts.

Now only when IBPS releases the Call Letters with the handout we will find out whether IBPS will have Sectional Cut-off like IBPS RRB of SBI PO.

As quoted by Priyanka Ravi, one of the toppers of IBPS Clerk, “Success does not come to you, you go to it.” This topper had an engineering graduation in the background. Her strategy was to score well in sections like English, Computer Knowledge and Reasoning, as she was good in these areas. She aimed in scoring 95% in these sections so as to compensate in other two sections. She added that she had a stressful time in preparing as she was working and she could not quit the job. She kept a tight study time of 2-3 hours during weekdays and dedicated the whole day during weekends to prepare for the exam.

The new pattern enabled to face any competitive exam by improving the Aptitude Skills. As the prelims approached she had focused only on the Aptitude, Reasoning and English without wasting time looking into General Knowledge and Computer Awareness sections. Preparing and taking prelims gave more confidence to attempt the Mains. Hence, it is important that you give equal concentration for both the Prelims and the Mains.

There were different strategies for each sections sect by this topper.
  1. English: Practice tests help in understanding the places you would go in Grammar; also getting to know new words thus training to guess the meaning of the word based on the context in the paragraph. Read IBPS Clerk English Tips
  2. Quantitative Aptitude:If you are weak in this section, you need to refer different books from various coaching centers and prepare own notes from each topic so the shortcuts could be revised a days before the exam.
  3. Reasoning: The topper has suggested learning once and practicing more for this section.  The most important things you need to focus on are the Speed & Accuracy. For improving speed in solving, it would be ideal if you find certain shortcuts to solve problems which are time consuming.
  4. Computer Awareness: It is important to refer previous year’s question papers. If you attempt 4 exams, it will be much easier to know what type of questions will be asked in the upcoming exam as they will be repeated. You can easily score 100% in this section after attempting 2-4 exams consecutively.
  5. General Knowledge & Current Affairs: To get well-versed with GK & Current Affairs, it is suggested that you could refer certain websites providing related materials it would be more than enough if you score 90%. One needs to read these materials about 4-5 times in case of Static G.K such as the country capitals, currencies and banking terms. In the case of Current Affairs, if the exam is scheduled for December, it will be enough if you refer the Current Affairs of October and November.

According to the topper, attending regular coaching surely will be of great help. However, if you cannot afford these regular classes, you could borrow materials from aspirants and also refer online materials.

For practicing and mock tests, you could check for some websites related to IBPS Clerk exam.  You could get a lot of IBPS Clerk mock test which gives the Real exam feel.

In case of books, try to get previous years’ question papers, more preferably the solved ones. It should be observed that the type of questions asked in every exam is different. IBPS Clerk exam is quite different from the RBI Assistant and hence the preparation should be focused to attempt each exam in a different way.
Reviews:
Hope this session on the topper tips for IBPS Clerk exam gave you adequate information on how to prepare each section. Use every bit of the suggestions, set the right strategy to make the preparation effective.
